Scottish Ale

Sadly it is too cold and windy in Scotland to grow hops. Whatever hops were used for brewing were imported from England(expensive) and used sparingly. As a result Scotch or Scottish ales are very malty and moderately sweet. Alcohol content goes from moderate to high. The darker Scotch ales are known as wee heavy.
