Malternative

Malt-ernatives are a special category of beverages that used to include just wine coolers. New to this category are hard sodas and spiked seltzers.  The flavored  malt category has grown to include beverages in the style of popular cocktails, like the mojito, but with the alcohol content of beer, generally 4-5 % abv. In this category you can find Arnold Palmer Spiked, Happy Dad, Lover Boy, Mike’s Hard, Smirnoff Ice, Truly and White Claw.  Note: conspicuously missing are High Noon and Surfside along with a few others.  Those that contain hard liquor like rum, tequila and vodka are only sold in liquor stores.
